It is easy to see why so many of the world's leading players looked forward to the Open Championship returning to Royal Troon for the first time since Justin Leonard got his hands on the Claret Jug in 1997.
Tiger Woods was expected to be the man to beat that week but the American discovered exactly why Scottish links courses have to be treated with care as his title bid came unstuck early on in a gorse bush.
From start to finish this is a fine test of golf, the most famous hole, of course, being the eighth or, as most people will know it, the 'Postage Stamp'. At just 126 yards, it is the shortest on any of the Open courses but there have still been many catalogues of disaster there over the years.
